Thoughts on the proposed Green
Line? From everything I have heard, Barry is trying to do this with most, if not all, private funding. And any government funding would probably come
from the state since the line would cross over several town lines. Sounds like a winner to me.

Private money? | #1 | ||

Private money and the railroads ended with Asa Packer. Anyhow, have you walked the tracks or taken a good look at the rail bridges, especially the one off
Route 29 and the Pickering Creek? Do you think enough private money could be raised to make this a safe passage?
I think I'll wait for the Philadelphia to Reading line with a stop in Phoenixville. |

The Feds rejected the request for Federal money several years ago because the plan was for an all electric line. The engineering analysis determined that the
line would be too long for electric and I cannot remember the reason why diesel was not an option (noise I think). As far as I can tell there has been no
progress with any govt funding, either State or Federal, since then. I would not hold your breath on this one. Too bad too, it would really attract alot of
people and reduce the rush hour congestion on 23.

I am all for any rail line, or bus for that matter, that would take me to a close rail station so I can get on Amtrak. The bus routes now are so long (read 99)
and even with the recent split of the 99 into 99 and 139, it still is a chore to get to a rail station. The green line would be an excellent addition to this
area and, with gas prices the way they are, should attract many people who now drive. Especially if they are commuting to Great Valley or Paoli just to grab a
train to Philly.

The Schuykill Valley Metro will never happen. Ever. The Green line does make the most sense, as it will be the lowest cost per mile route to bring Phoenixville
to Great Valley and Paoli.

boelker62 wrote: The Metro is just dead. The Green Line is just a better fit and would be used more by people trying to save money and have a stressless commute to Philly. I would even use it just to get to Paoli as I use Amtrak a lot and have issues with getting to Exton, or Paoli just to get the train. Mike |
